Answers to the Most Common Questions About Personal Chef Services

What to Expect When You Hire a Personal Chef

Hiring a personal chef is a little different than ordering meal delivery or hiring a caterer, so it’s natural to have questions. If you’ve been wondering what the process is like, you’re not alone. These are some of the questions I hear most often from new clients.

What happens before the first cook day?

Whether you’re a busy professional, juggling family activities, or simply looking to spend less time worrying about dinner, here’s what you can expect from working with Stovetop Solutions.

Every new client starts with a consultation. We’ll talk about your favorite foods, ingredients you’d rather avoid, dietary restrictions, portion sizes, and how you’d like your meals packaged.

This conversation helps me create menus that fit your lifestyle instead of asking you to choose from a fixed meal plan.

Do I have to be home while you cook?

Not necessarily.

Some clients work from home and enjoy the aroma of fresh meals being prepared. Others leave for work or run errands while I cook. As long as we have a plan for access to your home, you can spend your day however you’d like.

Do you grocery shop too?

Yes.

I handle the grocery shopping before every cook day, selecting fresh ingredients for your customized menu. That means one less errand on your to-do list.

Can meals be customized?

Absolutely.

One family may want high-protein meals, another may need dairy-free options, while someone else simply wants kid-friendly dinners that everyone will enjoy. Every menu is built around your family’s tastes, preferences, and dietary needs.

Can you prepare my family’s favorite recipes?

Absolutely! One of the benefits of hiring a personal chef is that your menu is built around your family’s preferences. If you have favorite recipes you’d like to keep in rotation, I’m happy to prepare them. I can also make adjustments to accommodate dietary needs, ingredient preferences, or portion sizes while keeping the flavors you love.

Can freezer meals still taste fresh?

Yes, when they’re prepared with freezing in mind.

Some recipes freeze beautifully, while others are better enjoyed fresh. I choose meals that maintain their quality after freezing and provide reheating instructions so they’re easy to enjoy later. For seafood dishes, I may leave the fish or shrimp uncooked so it’s perfectly cooked when you’re ready to enjoy it.

How long do prepared meals last?

Most meals are best enjoyed within three to five days when refrigerated. Many entrées also freeze well, giving you additional flexibility for busy weeks.

What happens after you’re finished cooking?

Before I leave, your meals are packaged, labeled with reheating instructions, and organized in your refrigerator or freezer. I also clean my work space, leaving it just as I found it so all you have to do is enjoy your meals.

Is a personal chef only for special occasions?

Not at all.

Most of my clients schedule recurring cook days because they want to save time, reduce the stress of meal planning, and enjoy fresh, homemade meals throughout the week.
